Update as of Mar 7, 2022

Dear JCC Harlem Community,

In light of the Mayor's recent updates to mask and vaccination requirements in New York City in response to declining COVID-19 rates, the JCC is implementing some changes to our health and safety policies.

Beginning today, Monday, March 7, for programs and events at JCC Harlem in which everyone present is age 5 and older, masks will be optional. Because of the design of our space, when children under 5 are present, we will require everyone 2 and older to be masked indoors. We will continue to require proof of vaccination for all individuals age 5 and up entering the JCC.

At every turn during the pandemic, the JCC has prioritized the safety and well-being of our staff and community. We believe that maintaining our vaccination policy is in keeping with our cherished value of good citizenship and in the best interest of community wellness.

Vaccination Policy

  • As has been our policy, all individuals aged 5 and up must be fully vaccinated to attend programs at JCC Harlem.

  • Parents and caregivers accompanying children to classes must show proof of vaccination in order to enter the building, even if the class is a drop-off.

  • You may continue to present your New York State Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe app, or your vaccination card for building and program entry.

Mask Policy Details

  • If children under 5 are present in our indoor space, everyone aged 2 and older is required to wear a mask (this includes participants, accompanying adults, instructors, and JCC Harlem staff).

  • If no children under 5 are present, masking will be optional for all, with the exception of children’s program instructors who will remain masked in all instances for the time being.

As always, please be in touch with us at info@jccharlem.org if you have questions. We thank you for your partnership.

Warmly,
Meg

HEALTH GUIDELINES AND PROTOCOLS FOR CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Please familiarize yourself with JCC Harlem's health and safety protocols listed below. These are subject to change as the health landscape evolves.

We believe everyone carries a responsibility for the health of our community, and place the highest value on ensuring safe communal spaces that inspire comfort and confidence. In an effort to encourage our children to be responsible community members, we require that all adults who attend any of our classes adhere strictly to our health and safety guidelines. Our experience has shown that our youngest community members respond best when they take their lead from trusted adults. Your partnership in demonstrating appropriate mask wearing and social distancing will ensure that we will continue to be able to provide the highest quality of programming during a time when starting and building relationships is invaluable. We appreciate your partnership and cooperation.

Health

If a child (unvaccinated or vaccinated) exhibits any of the symptoms below, a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms or a negative rapid test taken within 24–48 hours after the onset of symptoms is required in order to return to JCC programs.

In addition, the child must be fever and symptom-free for 24 hours before returning.

If UNVACCINATED, children should remain home if they have:

  • Tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days
  • A fever of 100 or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, sore throat, congestion, cough, lethargy, etc.
  • A new cold
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Stomach ache and little or no appetite

JCC credit or a prorated refund will be given for any sessions over two missed due to quarantine or pending test results.

If FULLY VACCINATED, children should remain home if they have:

  • Tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 5 days (or longer if still symptomatic). We strongly encourage a negative test before returning.
  •  A fever of 100 or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, sore throat, congestion, cough, lethargy, etc.
  • A new cold
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Stomach ache and little or no appetite

Exposure

If an UNVACCINATED child is exposed* to COVID-19 and remains asymptomatic, the child should remain home until:

  • 7 days after the last day of exposure
  • A negative test result on a PCR test taken on or after Day 4 following the exposure or a negative test result on a rapid test taken on or after Day 5 following the exposure

*If the exposure was from a household member, an unvaccinated child will need to refrain from attending JCC programs for 5 days following the end of the household member’s isolation period. A negative PCR test taken at the end of the child’s quarantine is required in order to return.

JCC credit or a prorated refund will be given for any sessions over two missed due to quarantine or pending test results.

If a FULLY VACCINATED child is exposed* to COVID-19 and remains asymptomatic, the child should:

  • Follow stringent masking guidelines for 10 days
  • As per the CDC’s suggestion, test on Day 5 following exposure

*If the exposure was from a household member, please refrain from attending JCC programs until the household member is no longer contagious and the child has then had a negative Covid PCR test.

JCC credit or a prorated refund will be given for any sessions over two missed due to quarantine or pending test results.

Travel

Any unvaccinated child who travels internationally will be required to refrain from attending JCC programs for 5 days, and be tested with a PCR test on the fifth day before returning to the JCC. We cannot offer credit or refunds should this occur.

Vaccination

To read about the JCC’s new vaccine requirements for children aged 5 and up, click here.

All children aged 5–11 are required to provide proof of one vaccine dose in order to participate in our programs. Beginning Feb 1, all children ages 5 and older must provide proof of full vaccination in order to attend any JCC programs. Individuals 12 and older are required to show proof of full vaccination (via NYS Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe app, or vaccination card) each time entering the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and JCC Harlem.

Anyone accompanying your child to a class may present a New York State Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe app, or vaccination card for building and program entry.

*Fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines. This means 2 weeks have passed since receiving the second dose of an FDA or WHO authorized double-dose vaccine or the sole dose of an FDA- or WHO-authorized single-dose vaccine.

Masks

For programs and events at JCC Harlem in which everyone present is age 5 and older, masks will be optional, with the exception of children’s program instructors who will remain masked in all instances for the time being. Because of the design of our space, when children under 5 are present, we will require everyone 2 and older to be masked indoors.

Drop-off Class Policy:
Accompanying adults are encouraged to leave the building during the class. If the adult must stay on site, there will be a designated waiting area for this purpose inside JCC Harlem.

Outdoor Classes

Masks are optional for all.
